Android launcher 1.1.0: Setup screens and screen timeout

Setup screens that show who a tablet is for and what happens next, a screen timeout set from the configuration, a clearer ownership footer, and fixes for kiosk mode and notices on a sleeping tablet.

New · Provisioning: On Android 12 and later, the setup screens show who the tablet is being set up for: the organization's name and logo, the tablet's name, an optional setup label and the organization's support phone and email, all read from the QR code.

New · Provisioning: A “What happens next” checklist on the setup screens marks each step: download, connect to the organization, load apps and settings, and restart once when asked.

Improved · Provisioning: Setup errors now say what went wrong and what to do: a setup code that has expired or was already used (ask for a new QR code, then factory reset the tablet), no connection to the server (with a WiFi button), or a wrong clock (with a date and time button).

Improved · Home: The ownership footer is larger and easier to read: one line says who the tablet belongs to, a second says how to reach them if it is found, and it sits at the bottom edge of the screen. Phone numbers and email addresses no longer break across lines, and the lock and readiness screens use the same two lines.

Fix · Kiosk: Kiosk mode now locks the tablet even when it is switched on while the screen is off or another app is in front. The tablet locks without waking the screen, so the next person to wake it finds the kiosk app locked.

Fix · Kiosk: Switching kiosk mode back on after switching it off now takes effect straight away. Before, the second switch could be missed.

Fix · Notices: A notice that arrives while the screen is off or locked now waits until someone unlocks the tablet. Only then is it shown and marked as seen, and only then does its auto-hide timer start. A notice that expires before anyone is there is never shown.

Fix · Notices: The notice banner now sits below the status bar instead of covering it and the top of the home screen, and notice buttons have proper padding and a larger touch area.

New · Device policy: The launcher applies the screen timeout set in the tablet's configuration and locks that setting on the tablet. When a configuration stops managing the timeout, the setting is unlocked and the tablet keeps its last value.

The first release of the Nemeo launcher for managed Android tablets: setup with one QR code scan, a managed home screen, kiosk mode, on-screen notices and automatic updates.

Fix · Provisioning: The launcher no longer crashes and restarts on a tablet that has not finished pairing, whose setup code was refused or has expired, or that was removed from management.

Fix · Provisioning: A tablet that finishes pairing after setup now starts receiving configuration changes and notices straight away. Before, they waited for the launcher's next restart.

Fix · Settings: Launcher settings sent in a configuration, such as the list of apps to lock, now take effect. Before, the tablet ignored them.

Fix · Settings: When a configuration stops setting any managed settings for an app, the tablet now clears that app's old settings instead of keeping them.
